We worked together with another engineering firm to develop a next generation, fully automated cell phone recycling kiosk.
We were tasked with developing a system to extend/retract the proper cable for a given cell phone.
The system was made up of a series of cartridges containing a retract spring, the cable, and a customized connector. A stepper motor indexed the carousel, a servo motor paid out and retracted the cable, and another servo motor acted as a gear selector.
The carousel was mounted on a sheet metal door incorporating a hinge that allowed the entire unit to swing out of the way of a technician servicing the kiosk.
